Negative

  • TNC’s(e.g. nike, coca cola, pepsi) are taking the the audiences away from the smaller companies in less developed countries, because bigger companies have more money to market it’s product, loss of choice
  • Becoming uniform, loss of uniqueness
  • Technology
  • People connecting with one another using the internet
  • Hacking, loss of privacy, ability to get on to other peoples accounts and then send it as if they were another person
  • Using internet to get a voice, and do things they can’t do in their real life.

Bemm News Grade 6 media project from Colin Campbell on Vimeo.

Dear Grade 6 and 7 students,

Now that you have got used to using your blog/ digital portfolio we would like to know what you think about it. Tell us your ideas. Use the following questions if you want or just write a really good blog post about how we can make these blogs better.

(Cut and paste the questions into your own blog post if you like)

What do you think about using a blog/ website for learning at school?

What are the best/worst things about using blogs?

Do you like the idea of using your blog/website for other classes, not just English? What subjects and why?

What are your favourite websites that you use?

What would you like to be able to do use your blog/ website for? What ideas have you got?

Do you think it is important to learn how to use things like blogs? Why? Why not?

As an experiment can you please leave a link to your comment under this post so it is quicker to read them but they are still on your blog.

Thanks,

Mr C

Grade 7 students,

When we find a style of book that we like we tend to read the whole series and then read books that are very similar. For example, we may read the whole Harry Potter series and then decide to read the Chronicles of Narnia. This is called reading within the same genre (style of novel). The aim of this assignment is to help you discover different types of books that you may like.

You need to read three books in three different genres. There are many different genres or types of book. Here are some categories to get you thinking:

Fiction

science fiction, adventure, historical fiction, crime fiction, fantasy, realistic fiction

Non-fiction

biography, auto-biography, travel writing

For each of these books you will write a blog entry but you need to vary the style that you use.

1. One should be a recommendation to a specific person, without giving away the ending. Why would this person like the book? Why should they read this book?

2. Another should be for a more formal review for a newspaper. Again you should avoid giving away the ending.

3. The third should be a recommendation of a whole genre, or author, or series of books. Here you can write about a book, series of books or author that you already know, but you should still read a new book. You audience here are the YIS students who will read your blog.

April – Start reading novels from different genres

May 16th – Finish reading novels/books (this means you have about two weeks per book so choose your books carefully)

May 27th – All blog entries due

You will choose one blog entry to be assessed and put into your English folio.

Good luck.

Description of task: In groups of three, research, plan and create a newspaper for the year 2029.

Guidelines. Must have the following types of stories:

A. A Serious event e.g. Holland loses Amsterdam to flood

B. A global or societal trend. E.g. technology use or diet change

C. A human-interest story. E.g. man finds coin in nose, or even Mr Campbell seeks revenge on the middle school students that taped him to a wall.

D. Celebrity/ fame story. E.g. Britney goes back to school!

Remember if you are writing a story about someone from schoo you must get permission from your teachers and check with the person concerned.
